In our Moorea ATV tour article, we mentioned that this ATV and Jet Ski Grand Combo from Moorea Activities Center is an absolute steal. It includes 3.5 hours of ATV riding plus 3 hours of jet skiing. As long as two people share one ATV and one jet ski, you only pay the price of one person: 40,000 XPF (about $400 USD). They charge per vehicle, which means an average of 3 hours of activities per person is only $100 USD! Having been tortured by the sky-high activity prices in Bora Bora, the two of us were completely drawn to this absolute bargain, so we excitedly signed up for our very first jet ski tour! By the way, the price includes round-trip hotel transfers! If you didn't rent a car, just let them know your pick-up time and location when booking.

Because of the sea conditions, Moorea Activities Center highly recommends doing the jet ski tour in the morning if your schedule allows. Word is that morning sea conditions are "usually" calmer and the water is much clearer. To make the most of our jet ski experience, we drastically rearranged our itinerary and woke up super early to gather at the beach.

🌊 Jet Skiing

The thatched hut you see above is the Moorea Activities Center meeting point. The very first thing upon arrival is getting fitted for life jackets!

Our guide first gathered everyone to explain the safety rules and exactly how to operate the jet skis.

The guide also introduced the Stonefish, a highly venomous fish that frequently appears in French Polynesian waters. Touching or stepping on one can result in hospitalization—or worse, it can be fatal.

Afraid we couldn't see the dried specimen clearly, our guide whipped out a tablet to show us high-res photos of the Stonefish. Their habitat is usually tucked away in the crevices of shallow reefs, so never randomly touch rocks in the shallows! It’s best to wear water shoes with good coverage, and the thicker the soles, the safer you are (This is so important that Cherry has repeated it in several different articles! 😆).

Because of this fish's natural camouflage, rocky shallows like these are particularly dangerous!

After the briefing, we picked out our ride and were ready to hit the water!

Perhaps because they weren't used to operating it yet, someone accidentally fell into the water just a few hundred meters out. Our guide instantly rushed over for a heroic rescue!

The rest of our group took turns following the guide, speeding along the stunning Moorea coastline.

Our guide also doubled as a fantastic photographer, capturing many cool angles we could never have gotten ourselves—and uploaded them all to Facebook for us to download for free!

To get these awesome shots and "train" our cornering skills (just kidding!), the guide often led us on zigzagging S-shaped routes during the ride.

The entire way, the water was so clear we could see straight to the bottom. The sprawling coral reefs were in plain sight. Riding over such flawlessly beautiful waters is an absolute joy!

Along the way, we zoomed past gorgeous resort overwater bungalows!

We even ran into a cruise ship!

And luxury yachts, too!

In between our speeding sessions, the guide would often pause to regroup and share a little Moorea island commentary.

🐬 Dolphin Watching

Our guide tries his luck looking for dolphin pods every day as he passes through. Since sightings aren't guaranteed, they didn't officially list dolphin watching on the itinerary at the time (info from March 2019).

We were super lucky and ran into a whole pod of dolphins!!! 🐬🐬🐬🐬🐬

Seeing dolphins was lucky enough, but thanks to exactly where we parked our jet ski, we were the only ones in the whole group to get a photo with them!!! Even though it's just our backs 😆, we were still beyond thrilled. Our good karma definitely paid off!

🐠 Snorkeling with Tropical Fish & Corals

After watching the dolphins, we rode all the way to a small islet teeming with corals and tropical fish 🐠.

There were quite a few other snorkel tours nearby, so it seemed to be a popular snorkeling hot spot!

Our snorkeling time was about 20 minutes. We didn't venture too far, but simply dipping our faces into the water revealed plenty of corals—more in scattered clusters rather than massive, sprawling reefs.

However, there were tons of colorful little tropical fish. It was incredibly beautiful!

🐟 Petting Stingrays

After snorkeling, our group hopped back on and headed toward the main event!

Before we even completely stopped our jet skis, a whole fever of stingrays glided right underneath us! The folks on our tour were completely awestruck XD!

We had already seen stingrays in Bora Bora before, but I was so terrified then that I didn't dare touch them. But the stingrays here completely cracked me up! They acted exactly like our guide's pet puppies—frantically following his every move and begging for food. Aren't they just ridiculously cute!?

In this photo, it seriously looks exactly like a dog sitting on the floor waiting for treats!

After being totally won over by how adorable these stingrays were, Kevin and I both 🔓 unlocked the life achievement of "Petting a Stingray" 😆 😆 😆

🦈 Swimming with Sharks

Although the shark experience in Bora Bora is unique and hard to beat, our shark-watching spot in Moorea had one massive advantage: we could stand comfortably in the shallows, feet on the sand, and watch both sharks and stingrays at the very same time.

In contrast, the tour we took in Bora Bora had us viewing sharks out in much deeper waters. For anyone who's too afraid to snorkel with sharks in the deep sea, this spot in Moorea where you can stand securely on the ground is an absolute blessing.

Also, I’m not sure if these Blacktip Reef Sharks are our guide's personal pets too, but they seemed even less afraid of people than the ones in Bora Bora! They would swim right at you and casually circle around your legs. Comparatively, the sharks we saw in Moorea felt much, much closer to us.

Besides sharks and stingrays, there were plenty of other varieties of fish swimming around too.

We were all so busy watching the fish in the water, but when we finally looked up, the whole group burst into laughter at this greedy bird! It brazenly landed right on one of the jet skis, casually lining up for a free lunch from our guide 😆

After hanging out with the sharks and rays, we headed back, wrapping up a jam-packed three-hour jet ski tour! That surreal, breathtaking sea and the white wakes trailing behind our speeding jet skis are truly memories we'll cherish forever. If you have the chance to visit Moorea, jet skiing is absolutely a highly recommended must-do!

Cherry genuinely thinks the value of this Moorea jet ski tour is off the charts. However, the ATV island tour—where you can ride through Moorea’s unique mountain landscapes and take in spectacular ocean views from two major viewpoints—is also highly recommended!
