Our recommended itinerary strikes a balance, ensuring both parents and kids have a fantastic time while checking off New York's iconic landmarks. As New York's "backyard," Central Park offers different beautiful scenery in every season. Whether it's admiring spring blossoms, having a summer picnic, chasing autumn leaves, or ice skating in the winter, it always brings a fresh and magical experience to your NYC trip.

The American Museum of Natural History boasts an incredibly rich and diverse collection. You'll find the world's tallest freestanding dinosaur fossil and various massive dinosaur skeletons! There's also marine life, incredible animal dioramas, a planetarium, a gem hall, and the Hall of Human Origins, which traces human evolution from apes to modern times. With its diverse exhibits and interactive experiences, both adults and kids will have an amazing time exploring! It's also famous as the setting for the movie Night at the Museum. Even though most of the movie was shot on a soundstage, it's still totally worth the pilgrimage for fans of the film. The museum's location is excellent, right next to Central Park, making it perfect to pair together in your itinerary. While there's food inside the museum, if you're looking for lunch, there's a highly-rated spot just a 7-minute walk away called Luke's Lobster Upper West Side that serves fantastic lobster rolls—definitely worth checking out!

★ Children's Museum of Manhattan

The Children's Museum of Manhattan (CMOM) is a space tailor-made for infants and toddlers ages 0-6. It offers numerous "hands-on, minds-on" exhibit areas, allowing children to learn about natural science, language, culture, and art through play! There are also some classic American scenes where you can snap cute tourist photos of your little ones. Plus, it's only about a 10-minute walk from the famous American Museum of Natural History, so you can easily visit both in one go! New York's weather can sometimes change quickly, making outdoor plans tricky, so CMOM is an excellent indoor backup plan for family fun on a rainy day.

★ Grand Central Terminal

☆ Location: 89 E 42nd St, New York | Map Link
☆ Hours: Open 24 hours

In a city that never runs out of legendary landmarks, Grand Central Terminal is the kind of "attraction" worth a special visit even if you aren't catching a train. Walking into the Main Concourse feels like stepping into a European palace. The stunning 38-meter-high teal ceiling is painted with the zodiac constellations—if we didn't know better, we'd think we wandered into an astronomy museum! The gleaming brass clock in the center and the classical, ornate decorations surrounding it make the architecture itself a sight to behold. And you absolutely can't miss the magical Whispering Gallery! If you stand at diagonal corners and whisper softly into the wall, the person on the other side can hear you perfectly. The kids will have an absolute blast playing the telephone game here!

SUMMIT One Vanderbilt is undoubtedly the trendiest among New York's five observation decks! It's the most Instagrammable and offers the most interactive experiences. Not only can you take in a breathtaking 360-degree view of the city, but you also get an incredible, up-close look at the Empire State Building. The deck cleverly combines clear glass and mirrored reflections to create a super futuristic visual effect! There's also an entire room filled with floating silver balloons—on the floor, in the air, everywhere you look. It's a space where parents snap amazing photos and kids just go wild with joy! If you're feeling brave, you can experience standing on a glass floor 1,100 feet in the air, looking straight down at the New York streets. Or, for an extra fee, ride the world's largest transparent exterior elevator to an even higher vantage point! The diverse design of SUMMIT One completely reinvents the traditional observation deck experience. You absolutely have to experience it for yourself! A quick heads-up: if you plan on wearing a skirt or dress, be sure to wear safety shorts underneath, because the mirrored floors will reflect everything! Also, the transparent floors and suspended designs might be a bit too thrilling for some children, so be sure to take that into consideration.

★ Rockefeller Center

☆ Location: 45 Rockefeller Plaza, New York | Map Link

The most striking feature of Rockefeller Center plaza is the golden statue of Prometheus, one of New York's most famous landmarks. If you visit in winter, the plaza magically transforms into New York's dreamiest ice-skating rink, a classic scene straight out of movies and TV shows! In November and December, adorned with its magnificent Christmas tree, it boasts some of the strongest holiday vibes in all of New York. The Top of the Rock observation deck at Rockefeller Center is an absolute classic. While some kids might find the mirrored spaces at SUMMIT a bit overwhelming, Cherry personally recommends Top of the Rock for children who might be more sensitive to heights or intense visual effects! There's also a lot of great shopping around Rockefeller Center. For instance, the LEGO flagship store on Fifth Avenue, or the legendary American toy store FAO Schwarz, are both right next door!

★ FAO Schwarz Toy Store

☆ Location: 30 Rockefeller Plaza, NY | Map Link
☆ Hours: Daily 10am–8pm

Founded in 1862, the legendary "FAO Schwarz" is the oldest premium toy brand in America! This iconic toy store features a super popular Jellycat Dinner experience, a large clock tower that puts on regular shows, the classic giant floor piano, and tons of teddy bears! The store is overflowing with toys and features live, in-person toy demonstrations—something that's quite rare these days. The whole place is bustling and full of magic, making you feel like you've stepped into a toy fairytale! The kids will be over the moon with so much to play with and look at, while the adults can take a nostalgic trip back to their own childhoods. It's an absolute must-visit family spot in New York!

★ Fifth Avenue & LEGO Flagship Store

☆ Location: 636 5th Ave, New York | Map Link
☆ Hours: Daily 10am–8pm

When talking about New York, it's impossible not to have heard of "Fifth Avenue"! Fifth Avenue is Manhattan's most famous north-south thoroughfare, cutting right through the heart of the city and gathering flagship stores of major luxury brands like Tiffany, Gucci, Prada, Apple, and LV. Even if you aren't shopping, admiring the gorgeous window displays and soaking in the elegance and bustle of New York is an experience in itself! If the adults want to stroll down iconic Fifth Avenue, there's a LEGO flagship store near Rockefeller Center that's perfect for a stop. The store displays numerous New York-themed LEGO models—like a yellow taxi, the Empire State Building, Times Square, and the Statue of Liberty. It's a great place to bring the kids, and the parents can snap some photos while crossing Fifth Avenue off their list! If you're visiting New York during the Christmas season, the holiday window displays of the luxury boutiques on Fifth Avenue are incredibly festive and absolutely not to be missed!

★ Times Square

☆ Location: 10036 New York, Manhattan | Map Link

Times Square can easily be called the beating heart of New York's hustle and bustle, and it's one of the most famous city landmarks in the world. When movies or TV shows mention New York, the scenes that pop up are inevitably either the Statue of Liberty or Times Square. It's a must-visit spot to "witness New York with your own eyes"! With its massive electronic billboards, flashing lights, and crowds, the millions of LED lights and signs keep the square as bright as day even at night. For travelers, Times Square isn't just "a sightseeing spot"—it's "a travel experience"! There are many famous restaurants and brand flagship stores around Times Square, such as M&M’s, Disney, Line Friends, and Ellen's Stardust Diner, all of which are perfect for families to visit together.

★ Broadway Musicals

☆ Family Recommendations: Harry Potter | The Lion King | Aladdin | Wicked

The area around Times Square gathers many world-class theaters and is the core of "Broadway Musicals." Catching a show here is one of the most classic ways to experience New York culture, and it's a highly sought-after bucket-list item for every traveler visiting the city! Broadway musicals in New York are incredibly suitable for families to experience together because many of them are adapted from well-known animations or movies, such as Harry Potter, The Lion King, Aladdin, and Wicked (the prequel to The Wizard of Oz). The stage design and special effects on Broadway are exquisitely detailed, allowing children to be completely immersed in theatrical magic—like a "flying" magic carpet, "walking" animals, and "color-changing" lighting. This immersive visual sensation is something you simply cannot experience in a movie theater or on TV!

📌 Important Note: The eye-catching red TKTS discount booths in New York offer some discounted tickets for same-day or next-day performances. However, popular shows are almost always completely sold out, so the chances of them appearing at the TKTS booth are quite low. If you want to see highly popular shows like Harry Potter, The Lion King, Aladdin, or Wicked, we strongly recommend booking your tickets in advance!

★ M&M’s World

☆ Location: 1600 Broadway, New York | Map Link

Walking into M&M’s World in Times Square feels like instantly stepping into a brilliantly colorful fairytale scene. Inside, you'll find the iconic M&M color pipe wall, interactive installations like the "Personalized Printer" and the "Mood Analyzer," and plenty of New York-exclusive souvenirs to browse! Besides being packed with amazing M&M merchandise in every color imaginable, there are also massive M&M character figures scattered throughout the store, perfect for photo ops! The absolute must-take photo is, of course, with the "Green Statue of Liberty M&M." Ready for a burst of color? Don't forget to check out the M&M’s flagship store when you visit Times Square!

As they deliver food, the servers might randomly break into a song and dance routine, turning your dining experience into a mini musical! The atmosphere is incredibly lively and hyped up! The live singing, frequent interaction, infectious performances, and joyful vibe make it perfect for the whole family to experience together. The restaurant is located near Times Square, making it a great dining option when you're exploring the area!

★ The High Line

☆ Location: Map Link

The absolute best spot to view Little Island is none other than "Pier 57"! Opened in 2022, Pier 57 can be considered one of New York's lesser-known hidden gems, combining a historic building, a fabulous food hall, and a sprawling Rooftop Park! Looking down at the neighboring Little Island from the rooftop, paired with the Hudson River in the background, plus parts of the Manhattan and New Jersey skylines across the way… it is truly breathtaking! From the rooftop, you can watch the bustling boats pass by, and there are large grassy areas and seating where you can relax and take in the view. Built in 1902, the "Flatiron Building" looks like an architect decided to play extreme Tetris, forcefully squeezing a triangular high-rise into the sharp wedge of land between Fifth Avenue and Broadway. Its famous moniker comes from its resemblance to a cast-iron clothes iron. It looks like a classical building that walked straight out of a movie, standing narrow yet perfectly straight on the street corner. While it's certainly not the tallest building in New York, it is absolutely one of the most distinctive! Today, the Flatiron Building has become a famous New York landmark. Plus, it's close to many tourist spots, like the Harry Potter store and Madison Square Park. If you're feeling artsy, you can also pop into Rizzoli Bookstore nearby.
