Legoland New York Information

★ Tickets: Official Website | Klook | New York Pass

LEGOLAND® New York Resort opened its doors in the summer of 2021, making it the newest Lego theme park in the United States! Located in Goshen, New York, it’s about a 1.5-hour drive from New York City, 3.5 hours from Boston, and 3 hours from both Philadelphia and Syracuse. If you're heading north from NYC towards Canada or Niagara Falls, this is the perfect pit stop along the way!

Pre-trip Preparation

We highly recommend downloading the official Legoland App before your trip. It's super handy for checking the live park map and current wait times on the day of your visit. Some absolute must-haves for your packing list include water bottles, hats, sunscreen, a portable phone charger, and a change of clothes for the kids. If you plan on hitting the water park or splash areas, don't forget to bring swimsuits!

The park has plenty of free water refill stations (pictured top right), so bringing a reusable water bottle is essential for a full day of fun. They also sell souvenir cups with unlimited soda refills (pictured top left) — whether you get one is totally up to you!

On-site Ticket Booth

Next up is the most important part of your preparation: buying tickets! Cherry highly recommends two ways to score discounted tickets:

🎫 First, if you're also exploring New York City, we highly suggest getting a Go City Explorer Pass. You read that right — Legoland tickets usually run between $70-80 USD, but they are actually included in the Go City pass! We only discovered this after we had already bought non-refundable tickets directly from the Legoland website. The three of us missed out on saving almost $200 USD! 😑 Just be sure to double-check if the Go City New York pass currently includes it before you buy (always refer to the latest updates on the Go City official website).

🎫 Second, if you aren't planning to visit NYC, check the official Legoland website early when planning your itinerary. Legoland uses dynamic pricing, meaning ticket prices change depending on how busy the day is expected to be. Keep an eye out for special $59.99 "Any Day" tickets on their website. If you happen to be visiting on a peak-priced day, these special promos can save you quite a bit! The worst option? Buying tickets at the gate on the day of your visit. You'll be paying top dollar with zero room to find a deal!

The 7 Theme Zones

After experiencing the overwhelming crowds at Tokyo Disneyland, we honestly had a bit of PTSD when it came to visiting large theme parks. We were dreading long lines and missing out on the rides we wanted to try. But surprisingly, the crowds at Legoland New York were much lighter than expected! We visited on a Saturday, and most rides had wait times under 15 minutes. Even the most popular attractions only took about 25 minutes if you timed it right. It is incredibly friendly for kids who have zero patience for waiting in line! Covering 150 acres, Legoland New York features 7 distinct theme zones. Below, we've broken down the zones and their most popular rides so you can plan a route that fits your family's vibe, minimizing both wait times and walking distance!

Photo from official website

Right after you walk into the park, on your right, you'll find the Minifigure Skyflyer, a cable car that takes you straight down to the LEGO® Pirates zone. If you have a specific ride you want to rush to, hopping on the Skyflyer right away is a great strategy!

However, if you are parents pushing a stroller or if you simply despise walking uphill, our recommended route is: Bricktopia ➡️ Ninjago® World ➡️ Nature Way ➡️ LEGO® Castle. Why? Because this way is entirely downhill! We didn't know this when we arrived; we saw everyone rushing to the cable car, so we took it down to the Pirates zone and ended up pushing our stroller all the way uphill… it was absolutely exhausting! 😅

★ Bricktopia

Bricktopia features open building zones that encourage guests to let their imaginations run wild and build whatever they want. Compared to the rest of the park, Bricktopia is exceptionally vibrant, totally immersing you in the classic, bold colors of LEGO!

The brightly colored teacups and the pool featuring LEGO musical instruments are incredibly cute. For the toddlers, there's even the Duplo Express train ride!

Overall, the rides in Bricktopia lean slightly towards younger children. If you have older kids or adults in your group, our top recommendation here is the LEGO® Factory Adventure ride (Map location #20). As an exclusive ride to Legoland New York, it lets you experience what it's like to "shrink down" into a LEGO Minifigure! You get a full, magical tour of the LEGO manufacturing process — from molding and storage to packing and shipping. It is arguably the most classic, must-do ride in the park! (Plus, there’s no height restriction, so even the littlest ones can ride.) The queue is fully air-conditioned, making it a wonderful escape from the summer heat. The LEGO® Factory Adventure ride is easily the most popular ride in the park and one of the only two attractions that genuinely feels like a "Disney-level" dark ride. Cherry highly recommends making this your very first stop after entering the park. Since the Ninjago rides are right next door, you can easily knock both out in one go!

★ LEGO® Ninjago® World

As the name suggests, this zone is completely ninja-themed! You'll find plenty of Asian-inspired architecture and masterful ninjas 🥷🏻, making you feel like you've stepped into an Eastern martial arts realm. If you're lucky, you might even spot the LEGO Ninjas themselves walking around for photo ops!

Not only does LEGO® Ninjago The Ride have a gloriously air-conditioned queue, but it also ditches traditional shooting blasters for cutting-edge "hand gesture detection technology." Players literally just wave their hands to shoot fireballs and fight virtual enemies! All you have to do is throw your arms out like you're throwing a ninja star, and the interactive game begins. It's an absolute blast for gamers 🤣. Cherry felt it had a very similar vibe to the Monsters, Inc. Ride & Go Seek at Tokyo Disneyland. It is hands down Cherry's absolute favorite ride in the entire park — no contest!

★ Nature Way

Nature Way is an absolute paradise dedicated to toddlers! Not only does it have an incredibly cute Peppa Pig-themed playground built out of Duplo blocks, but there are also scheduled Peppa Pig live shows. There's also a wonderfully colorful Duplo free-building area. If you're traveling with kids between 2 and 5 years old, this is the perfect spot for them to burn off some energy!

★ LEGO® Castle

LEGO® Castle embraces a medieval theme. Walking into this zone feels like stepping right into a fairy-tale magical kingdom! It’s complete with dragons, knight towers, wizards, and even a snoozing guard at the castle gates. It’s highly entertaining and perfectly blends storytelling with fantastic visual appeal.

The rides in the Castle zone are diverse and packed with magic. There are two dragon roller coasters: the thrilling "The Dragon," and a mini-coaster perfect for younger kids called "The Dragon’s Apprentice." You'll also find the King Arthur-inspired "Merlin’s Flying Machines" and a knight-themed physical challenge, the "Tower Climb Tournament." From kids aged 3 and up right to the parents, everyone will find a ride they love in the Castle zone!

★ LEGO® City

LEGO City beautifully recreates the day-to-day life of a "micro-city." Here, kids can learn to drive at the driving school, steer a fire engine to put out a fire, or pilot a boat on a maritime patrol. These attractions simulate the daily routines of various city professions, making you feel like a real citizen of this mini-town!

The "Fire Academy" is one of the most popular rides in this area. Participants have to furiously pump levers up and down to drive their LEGO fire engine forward, and then use real water cannons to put out a "fire." It’s a race to see which fire brigade can finish the job and get back to the station first! It’s an incredibly fun and challenging test of teamwork, and both kids and adults get super into it!

The "Coast Guard Academy" lets you pilot a small boat through an obstacle-filled waterway on a marine rescue mission — perfect for kids obsessed with vehicles! Furthermore, the Driving School is an absolute highlight of LEGO® City. At the "Driving School," kids aged 6–13 can drive simulated cars, learn traffic rules, and earn their very own Legoland Driver's License. The "Junior Driving School" is specially designed for toddlers aged 3–5, featuring smaller cars and a simpler track so the little ones can get in on the driving fun too!

Most of the attractions in LEGO® City are outdoors. If you need a break from the sun (or the cold), head over to the "Palace Cinema" to watch a 4D LEGO short film! Each movie runs for about 15 minutes, making it the perfect spot to sit down, relax, and enjoy some hilarious LEGO animations. When we visited, they showed different movies at the top of the hour, at 20 past, and at 40 past. Since it wasn't crowded, we were able to watch one movie, step out, and immediately hop back in line for the next one!

The "Water Playground" instantly turns Legoland into a bona fide water park! The playground features waterslides and a massive dump bucket (dropping 318 gallons of water at once). It is the absolute best way to cool down on a scorching summer day.

Note that the Water Playground requires online reservations to enter. Crucially, reservations only open on the day of your visit, and once they're full, they're gone! If you want to hit the water park, remember to secure your spot early as soon as you enter the park!

★ LEGO® Pirates

This pirate-themed water play area immerses you completely in a "Pirate World" — from the architecture and characters to the sound effects and activities. And of course, a pirate ship is mandatory! The LEGO Pirates zone is full of intricately built LEGO pirates, treasure chests, and adventurous scenes that make for fantastic photo ops.

The star attraction of LEGO® Pirates is the "Splash Battle." You board a pirate ship armed with water cannons and wage "war" as you sail along! You can blast other boats, and even attack innocent bystanders on the shore (Cherry was definitely that innocent bystander who just happened to walk by and got completely drenched😅! Although I was soaked, the people on the boats were laughing hysterically 🤣).

★ Miniland

Built from tens of millions of LEGO bricks, Miniland features miniature models of iconic American cities, including New York, San Francisco, and Las Vegas. From the landmarks of NYC to the West Coast's Golden Gate Bridge and the Vegas Strip, you essentially get a whirlwind tour of the entire United States in a matter of minutes! Even better, these aren't just static displays. Many of the models feature interactive buttons, changing lights, and even animation and sound effects that bring the scenes to life. It's a highly representative American attraction and a must-see, must-photograph spot in the park!

Right before you leave, don't forget to stop by "The Big Shop" near the entrance to hunt for souvenirs. They have a massive selection of LEGO sets, though Cherry thought the prices weren't overly friendly. We highly recommend grabbing souvenirs that are exclusive to Legoland New York! (As someone who strictly only buys magnets as travel souvenirs, Cherry deeply regrets not buying the LEGO Statue of Liberty luggage tag! 😅)

Our trip completely transformed our impression of Legoland for the better! It feels like the perfect fusion of a child-friendly amusement park, a water park, and playful LEGO elements. It’s highly photogenic, incredibly fun, and an absolutely fantastic destination for families. Plus, with the incredibly short wait times, we managed to ride so many different attractions in a single day. Dare we say, the overall experience was even better than Disney (Disney wait times are just brutal)! If you are traveling with kids under 12, we wholeheartedly recommend Legoland New York! Even after we returned to Canada, our son couldn't stop talking about it and keeps begging to go back!
