Boasting an absolutely prime location, Ho Quoc Pagoda is arguably the most beautiful and majestic temple in all of Phu Quoc. Facing the endless ocean and backed by lush, emerald peaks, it perfectly captures the essence of the Chinese idiom "nestled in the mountains and embracing the water"! Legend has it that a former Vietnamese Prime Minister made a wish at Ho Quoc Pagoda, promising to renovate the temple if he won the election. True to his word, he funded the restoration after his successful campaign, which is why the temple looks as magnificent as it does today!

At the entrance, two imposing and spirited statues stand guard on either side.

Looking inward from the entrance, you can immediately spot a solemn, beautifully crafted Buddha statue.

As we stepped through the gates, our eyes were instantly drawn to a massive, glittering gold relief. Lifelike dragons and blooming lotus flowers covered the entire carving—it was incredibly grand and awe-inspiring!

Climbing up the stone steps, we were rewarded with the most stunning views the temple has to offer! Exquisitely carved dragon stairs flank the sides, framing the gleaming gold dragon and phoenix centerpiece. Throw in the antique-style red pavilions and the sparkling ocean shimmering under the sunlight… it was such a breathtaking and soul-soothing panorama!

Strolling through the temple grounds, we noticed blooming lotus flowers everywhere, adding to the deep, peaceful Buddhist atmosphere.

You can spot strong influences of traditional Chinese architecture throughout the temple, especially in the intricately carved beams and painted pillars.

Following the path past the main hall leads to a small hill in the back (heading toward the Guanyin / Goddess of Mercy statue). Looking down from this vantage point is an absolute dream! We took in the temple's delicate rooftops, the majestic green mountains standing tall in the background, and the clear blue sky with fluffy white clouds—all in one sweeping glance. Simply stunning!

We had read comments from netizens comparing Ho Quoc Pagoda to the temples at Sun Moon Lake in Taiwan—after all, one faces the sea and the other faces a lake. But after visiting it ourselves, we can honestly say the architectural styles feel quite different. This antique-style temple in Phu Quoc, paired with the boundless ocean, allows you to simultaneously feel the serene tranquility of the pagoda and the vast, majestic power of nature. It's absolutely a must-visit spot on your Phu Quoc itinerary!
