The Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa had only been open for about a year when we discovered it — and during the low season, you can redeem a stay there for as few as 30,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night. On our November 2019 trip, Cherry and Fish paid absolutely nothing out of pocket: just 130,000 points total plus a Suite Night Award, averaging only 26,000 points per night for a seriously upgraded Executive Suite that was worth every single point!!

🌴 How We Redeemed Points for Free Nights
Marriott International's portfolio of 29 hotel brands is divided into eight redemption categories, and the Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa — which opened in the summer of 2018 — sits at Category 5.
Starting in September 2019, Marriott introduced a dynamic pricing system for award redemptions based on peak and off-peak demand. For Category 5 hotels, off-peak nights cost 30,000 points, standard nights run 35,000 points, and peak nights go up to 40,000 points. And here's the deal that makes this even better: book 5 consecutive award nights and the 5th night is completely FREE — meaning you pay for 4 nights and get 5!!! This perk applies across all Marriott properties bookable with points. During the off-peak season, you could score 5 nights for as few as 120,000 points (30,000 × 4 nights).
We chose to visit in November — technically Bali's rainy season — though we didn't encounter a single drop of rain! Here's how the point costs varied day by day that month:

Because of the dynamic pricing structure, even within the low season, the hotel adjusts its redemption rates based on daily occupancy. That's why you'll notice some November dates required 30,000 points while others nudged up to 35,000.

Our travel dates landed mostly on those lower 30,000-point off-peak nights, and combined with the "5 nights for the price of 4" deal, we successfully redeemed our entire stay — a Deluxe King Garden View room for five nights — for just 130,000 points. In real money terms, that's easily over TWD 20,000 worth of accommodation, completely free.
🌴 Making the Most of Suite Night Awards
When you accumulate 50 nights at Marriott International properties within a calendar year, you unlock a Choice Benefit reward.

We had previously chosen the Five Suite Night Awards as our Choice Benefit, which turned out to be a perfect match for this five-night Bali booking! As you can see in the suite upgrade screen below, there are several room types to choose from. You can select multiple preferred upgrades, but keep in mind that upgrades aren't guaranteed — you'll only find out if you've been confirmed a few days before check-in.

Thanks to those Suite Night Awards, our five-night stay was successfully upgraded to an Executive Suite complete with a stunning oversized garden terrace!
If you don't have Suite Night Awards to use, here are your two alternatives:
-
Points + Cash (Redemption with Cash Upgrade)
On top of the 130,000 base award points, you could guarantee a suite upgrade by paying extra in cash (taxes and service fees included) — coming to nearly TWD 13,000 (6,050,000 IDR) for the five-night Executive Suite.
-
Cash Only
Alternatively, if you were to book these five nights entirely in cash without any points or upgrade certificates, the cheapest prepaid rate (taxes and service fees included) would come to approximately TWD 30,000 (14,293,943 IDR) — around TWD 6,000 per night.

Between the points redemption and the Suite Night Awards, we covered our entire Bali accommodation cost without spending a cent! While Bali hotel prices aren't outrageously expensive to begin with, if you have enough Marriott Bonvoy points saved up, this is an incredibly smart way to eliminate your lodging costs altogether. And of course, the same strategy works at any Marriott International property that accepts award redemptions — when used wisely, your points and Suite Night Awards can deliver far more value than you might expect.

Bali has so many hotels it can feel completely overwhelming — we read through countless reviews before finally settling on this Renaissance Bali Uluwatu resort, and experiencing it firsthand confirmed we made exactly the right call! Since the resort had only been open for just over a year, everything felt fresh and new — stylish design with its own distinctive personality. The Executive Suite was enormous, and in terms of spaciousness, comfort, and the quality of service, it absolutely surpassed our expectations for a Marriott Category 5 property!
