🌴 Hilton Honors Points
If we hadn’t read online about experienced travelers using points to book a room at the Conrad Bora Bora Nui and then paying to upgrade, Cherry and Fish wouldn't have been able to afford even a single night in an overwater bungalow using real money… For the six nights we stayed, the room rate with breakfast would have been over 900,000 Pacific Francs (around $9,000 USD)!!!!

We used 80,000 points per night to redeem a King Lagoon View Suite at the Conrad Bora Bora Nui, and then paid an upgrade fee of $359 USD per night for the overwater bungalow (based on March 2019 pricing) ~ By 2020, the points required had already increased to 89,000 points per night.
If you're a high-tier Hilton Honors member and there's availability, you might even get upgraded to a room with an even better view, like the King Horizon View Suite. We always thought it was impossible to score an overwater bungalow without paying for an upgrade! However, we've heard stories from other travelers who didn't care either way, yet ended up getting a free upgrade to an overwater bungalow without spending a dime! So it really just depends on your luck and good karma!
If you aren't as relaxed about it and want to absolutely guarantee an overwater bungalow, you'll receive an email from the Conrad Resort after booking. This email will include photos of different room types and their respective upgrade prices. If you want, you can confirm your room upgrade directly through that email.
While overwater bungalows aren't cheap, the vast majority of tourists who travel all the way to Bora Bora end up staying in one. During peak season, we highly recommend upgrading as soon as you see availability to secure your dream room! Another thing to note based on our experience: if you book five nights in a single reservation, that entire booking can only be upgraded to one specific room type. So if you book five nights and want an overwater bungalow, you'll have to upgrade all five nights. If you want to experience different room types during your stay, you'll need to make separate bookings!
🌴 Overwater Bungalow Room Types
Leaving out the Presidential Suite (which was completely out of our budget!), the official website offers two main overwater bungalow options 👉🏻 the King Deluxe Overwater Villa and the King Overwater Villa. Before our trip, we just couldn't figure out the difference between the two??? The interior photos on the website were exactly the same! We later discovered that the only difference is the "view". The King Deluxe Overwater Villa is more expensive but offers a much better view. According to the website, it features unobstructed views of the horizon or Mount Otemanu. Cherry and Fish ultimately chose to stay in the King Deluxe Overwater Villa ~
🌴 Check In
Alright, let's fast forward back to the morning we arrived at the Conrad Bora Bora Nui via the resort shuttle boat~~~ (Click here for our Shuttle Boat Guide)

Upon arrival, Cherry happily sipped on the welcome drink while Kevin took care of the check-in process~~~

After checking in, a lovely staff member who spoke Chinese drove us to our room in a golf cart. Along the way, they introduced us to the resort's facilities and gave us some helpful tips. As we've mentioned in other articles, it was this staff member who warned us that the tap water in the resort isn't safe to drink. In fact, they told us it shouldn't even be consumed after boiling! So, if you plan to boil water for instant noodles, make sure you use bottled water!

Before long, we arrived at our overwater bungalow!!!!

🌴 The Overwater Bungalow Room Tour
The interior of the overwater bungalow—including the floors, walls, and ceiling—is completely made of beautiful wood. Paired with the high vaulted ceilings and the thatch hanging outside the windows… Oh my god!!!! It is 100% the ultimate tropical vacation vibe~~~ Even though we had looked at photos of the room countless times before the trip, seeing it in person was absolutely breathtaking! Cherry was literally at a loss for words the moment she walked in, just repeating on a loop: "Wow, it's so beautiful!! Wow, it's so beautiful!!" like a broken record 😆 😆 😆 (Somebody get this girl a thesaurus!)

Right by the entrance, the first thing we noticed was the cozy sofa area~~

On the coffee table, they had thoughtfully prepared a bottle of red wine, artisan chocolates, and a lovely welcome postcard for us.

Looking out the window behind the sofa, we were greeted by yet another stunning view of the ocean~~~

Right in the middle of the room sits a plush King-size bed, beautifully decorated with fresh tropical flowers~

Isn't it so romantic?! It truly lives up to its reputation as a honeymoon paradise 😆 ~~~

Directly in front of the bed is a pop-up TV! You can sit in bed, watch your favorite shows, and gaze out at the ocean view all at the same time. Absolute perfection!!

Above both nightstands, there are very convenient universal power outlets~

On the other side of the bed, there is a lovely little dining and tea area alongside the Mini Bar.

One evening, we actually used this small table to have dinner in the room! The little stool next to it holds resort beach towels, which are perfect for when you want to take a dip~

The adjacent Mini Bar features an espresso machine, an electric kettle, coffee capsules, tea bags, sugar, and more~

Opening the right side of the cabinet reveals coffee cups, forks, spoons, and other cutlery. In the mini-fridge below, we found two bottles of fresh pineapple juice from Moorea, two bottles of local Tahiti beer, and two bottles of water~

On the left side, there's an ice bucket, teacups, and a bottle opener. You can take the ice bucket to the nearby ice machine whenever you need a refill. There's also a full teapot set if you're in the mood for tea—super convenient!

Right next to the Mini Bar is a walk-in closet that doubles as a little study. The life jackets stored on top of the wardrobe are there for you to use when snorkeling~

There is so much hanging space for clothes—it's incredibly practical!! You'll also find the safety deposit box tucked inside one of the closet cabinets~

🌴 Bathroom
The centerpiece of the bathroom is a massive circular bathtub. However, because we spent every free second snorkeling in the ocean and completely crashed early in the evenings due to jet lag… believe it or not!!! We didn't end up using this gorgeous tub even once…😭😭😭

The bathroom is so spacious that my camera lens couldn't capture the whole thing! We eventually had to bust out the fisheye lens just to get a full panoramic shot~~~

The mirror design over the washbasins is quite unique. They've placed a round wooden-framed mirror right in the center of a huge rectangular mirror. With the two sinks facing each other, it creates this really cool, infinitely extending geometric illusion.

The resort's toiletries are provided by the luxury brand 'Shanghai Tang'. This was our first time staying at a Conrad property, and we were beyond thrilled to see Shanghai Tang amenities!!!

They even placed a massive, vibrant bowl of tropical flowers right on the vanity table. It’s such a thoughtful touch—definitely makes you feel like the big bucks 💸💸💸 you dropped on the upgrade were well worth it 😆

The shower and toilet are in separate enclosed stalls. The shower room even features a convenient built-in bench to sit on!

🌴 The Outdoor Deck
After thoroughly marveling at the relaxing, tropical vibe of the interior, we finally made it to the absolute highlight of the overwater bungalow: the outdoor deck!!!! Because we went with the King Deluxe Overwater Villa, our view was completely unobstructed, giving us a pristine, crystal-clear look at the horizon~

Stepping out onto the deck, you can also see the spectacular rows of overwater bungalows stretching out on either side.

The very last one at the end is the Presidential Suite~

For a snorkeling fanatic like Cherry, the underwater scenery was a huge priority! The Tiffany-blue water surrounding our bungalow was crystal clear, making the coral and tropical fish incredibly easy to spot from above!!!!

It is exactly what the waters of Tahiti look like in our wildest dreams ahhhhhh~~~

This unbeatable ocean-view deck is without a doubt the biggest selling point of the overwater bungalow. It features two massive sun loungers and two incredible overwater hammock nets!

The deck even has a handy freshwater shower head so you can easily rinse off after coming up from a snorkel session. So thoughtful~

On the other side of the deck, tucked perfectly under a shaded canopy, is a lovely outdoor dining set~~~

If it gets too hot and you don't feel like jumping in the water, it's the perfect spot to lounge, break out your own snacks, and play "rich socialite" with a relaxing afternoon tea setup~~

During our two days in the overwater bungalow, we could barely bring ourselves to leave the room. Every fiber of our being was dedicated to maximizing our enjoyment of this space. Whenever the sun wasn't too intense, we immediately jumped into the sea to snorkel. Because of jet lag, Cherry would wake up around 6 AM. Normally, she would hit snooze until the alarm went off, but in the overwater bungalow, the very first thing she did upon opening her eyes was rush outside to check the ocean! Seeing the tranquil water glowing in the morning light, with tropical fish clearly visible below, she would instantly dive in to say good morning to the fishies 🐠~ 🥰

For Cherry, this was undoubtedly the greatest morning of her entire life—hands down~~~

We really have to give credit to the Conrad Resort for their incredible efforts in protecting the marine coral. The coral formations right off our deck were abundant and stunningly beautiful~

The underwater world is a dazzling array of brightly colored, diverse fish. They don't seem scared of humans at all and happily swam right alongside us! We would lose all sense of time the second we started snorkeling~~~

Aside from snorkeling when the sun was mild, our days consisted of hiding from the intense midday heat by spacing out in the room or on the deck, admiring the view, sipping afternoon tea, and taking highly "influencer" photos 😆. It was basically the ultimate lazy itinerary~~

The view from the bungalow is equally breathtaking at dusk. We could actually see the sunset right from our own deck! It's the absolute perfect setting for a private sunset dinner~

🌴 Sunset Spot Recommendations
However, Cherry has another fantastic sunset viewing spot to recommend—right by the Presidential Suite! Fortunately, our overwater bungalow was located pretty close to it.

We took a stroll near the Presidential Suite right around sunset, giving us the chance to enjoy the exact same sunset as whoever was staying there!!! The pavilion in the photo below faces due west, making it an incredible vantage point for catching the sunset!

One of our evenings was spent cozied up in the room for dinner. Even though we were literally just eating instant noodles, Cherry insisted on setting up a full-blown spread with whatever random snacks we had lying around~ XXXD

Paired perfectly with a refreshing Tahiti beer~

While our makeshift dinner cobbled together from limited supplies was nowhere near as gourmet as a restaurant meal, it gave us such a special, unforgettable memory~

When it was finally time to check out, we were so reluctant to leave. Even now, looking back at the photos, we miss our "overwater bungalow selves" so much!

Bora Bora possesses this magical, magnetic charm; once you visit, you just constantly want to go back!! Experiencing this amazing overwater bungalow allowed Cherry and Fish to check off another major bucket list goal. If you're planning a trip to Bora Bora, you absolutely cannot miss out on this!
