Since our flight arrived late at night and our connecting flight was early the next morning, figuring out where to stay during our Helsinki layover was quite a headache for us. To our absolute surprise, the room we ended up booking at the Hilton Helsinki Airport Hotel had its very own private sauna! It was exactly what we needed to melt away our travel fatigue and recharge for the rest of our journey.

Originally, because of our late arrival and early departure, we knew we'd only get a few hours of sleep. We were seriously considering just sleeping inside the airport in one of the GoSleep Pods near Gate 28. Honestly, those pods look pretty cool! However, after weighing our options, Kevin ultimately decided we should embrace the comfort of the Hilton. (Though I highly suspect his real motivation was just to rack up points for our upcoming stay at the Conrad Bora Bora Nui for our Tahiti trip 😆)

✈️ Lobby

The Hilton Helsinki Airport Hotel is located right next to the airport. It's just a quick 5-minute walk, and the best part is that the path is indoors, so you don't have to brave the wind and snow! Since the hotel isn't strictly inside the transit area, you do have to pass through immigration to get there. The lobby features high ceilings; while it's not overly extravagant, it feels clean, bright, and very welcoming.

Right next to the lobby, there's a small convenience kiosk. What's especially thoughtful—since it's an airport hotel—is the two large screens on the right side of the photo displaying real-time flight departures and arrivals for Helsinki Airport! Plus, you can roll your airport luggage carts straight into the hotel, which is super convenient.

✈️ Room Tour

The guest room hallways are lined with a soothing green carpet~

Checking in just past 11 PM, we finally dragged our exhausted selves into our room.

The room interior isn't brand new, but it is spotlessly clean and exceptionally cozy! One unique detail is the wooden flooring, which is quite rare for hotels. It's definitely a big plus for allergy sufferers!

The pale wood furniture paired with the green accent rug and curtains (matching the hallway) gives the room an unmistakable, classic Nordic vibe.

Even though we were just passing through for a quick one-night stay, the staff still thoughtfully folded towel swans for us on the bed!

They even left us a sweet heart-shaped chocolate and complimentary water.

Looking out the window, you can see the airport terminal right there—it really is just steps away!

On the left side of the photo, you can spot the enclosed walkway we just crossed to get here.

✈️ Bathroom & Private Sauna

The bathroom features a massive vanity counter.

It comes fully equipped with a nice walk-in shower and all the standard amenities.

Since it's a Hilton, the toiletries are naturally Crabtree & Evelyn. Up to this point, everything seemed like a perfectly standard, nice hotel bathroom.

But then we turned around and looked closer… there was a P-R-I-V-A-T-E S-A-U-N-A tucked away in the back!!!!

Maybe we were making a big fuss over nothing—we later learned that almost every household in Finland has a sauna, and using one is as common as taking a hot bath. But hey, we aren't Finnish, so allow me to continue being completely amazed!

The sauna isn't huge, but the quality is fantastic. It has beautiful wooden seating with sleek indirect lighting underneath.

Complete with a water ladle and a traditional stove to create steam, it may be small, but it has absolutely everything you need! We had never stayed in a hotel room with its own private sauna before. It was just too cool! Taking a quick shower and then enjoying a steamy sauna session made all of our travel exhaustion completely vanish.

✈️ Buffet Breakfast

Being an airport hotel, they cater to passengers with early flights, so breakfast thoughtfully starts as early as 3:30 AM!

Since it was so incredibly early 😆, there weren't many other guests dining yet~

They provide hot food options. If I remember correctly, it was your standard Western breakfast fare—sausages, breakfast potatoes, scrambled eggs, and the like.

Besides the usual bacon and cheese, serving their staple food—salmon—seems to be completely standard for hotel breakfasts in Finland (in fact, both hotels we stayed at offered it). But seeing such massive cuts of salmon alongside the smoked salmon isn't something you typically find at hotel breakfast buffets elsewhere!

We honestly have never seen such an overflowing platter of gigantic salmon fillets at a hotel breakfast before. Isn't that wild?

In addition to the amazing salmon, their juice station was incredibly impressive! You just tap an iPad to select your drink, and the juice flows out of a faucet-like dispenser next to it. So futuristic and cool! True to Finnish design, even the small details stand out from the crowd!

✈️ Executive Lounge Info

Although breakfast begins at 3:30 AM, the Executive Lounge doesn't open until 7:00 AM.

Because our flight was so early in the morning, we unfortunately didn't get the chance to use the Executive Lounge.

This stay at the Hilton Helsinki Airport Hotel really opened our eyes! Even though it was just a fleeting one-night stay, we were deeply impressed by the warm hospitality of the staff and that incredible in-room sauna. We heard that rooms with saunas are quite limited (not every room has one!), so we were extremely grateful to the hotel staff for upgrading us. If you ever have a layover in Helsinki or an early morning flight to catch, this Hilton is an exceptionally convenient and comfortable choice!
