This highlights that it will proudly represent the core "Hilton Hotels & Resorts" brand, marking its grand debut in one of the world's most fiercely competitive and iconic island getaway destinations: the Maldives.

Originally, the Amingiri resort was slated to open in late 2021, but likely due to the pandemic, it was pushed back multiple times—to May, then July 2022, delayed again to September, and recently finalized for a July opening. July falls right in the middle of the Maldivian rainy season (May to October). The silver lining of opening then? The resort can use the feedback from early-bird guests and influencers to fine-tune their operations before the peak dry season (November to April) kicks in. (Fun fact: Marriott's Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa also opened during the rainy season in September 2020!)

According to the official June 2021 press release from the Hilton News Room:

Hilton Maldives Amingiri will mark the entry of Hilton’s flagship Hilton Hotels & Resorts brand into the Maldives. It will be the fourth resort under the company’s portfolio of brands in the Maldives, joining Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi, Conrad Maldives Rangali Island and SAii Lagoon Maldives, Curio Collection by Hilton.

Following the Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi, Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, and SAii Lagoon Maldives, Curio Collection by Hilton, the Hilton Maldives Amingiri Resort opening in 2022 will be the fourth Hilton portfolio property in the Maldives. Hilton has also announced a management agreement with Amingiri Holdings Pvt Ltd, a hospitality subsidiary of the Maldivian construction and real estate firm Amin Construction Pvt Ltd, to launch this 109-all-villa resort.

Since it's a brand-new resort, there aren't any actual guest reviews available online at the time of writing. However, according to Hotel & Catering news, Hilton has appointed Gaurav Thakur—who previously served as the Resort Manager at the ultra-luxurious Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi—to lead the pre-opening team at Hilton Maldives Amingiri. This should ensure a smooth launch and ongoing success for the new property.

The Waldorf Astoria is Hilton’s top-tier brand in the Maldives, so bringing its manager over will hopefully infuse the Amingiri with that same world-class service and guest experience. We can't wait to see the actual guest reviews roll in post-opening! If we get the chance to visit, Cherry and I will absolutely share our first-hand, unbiased experience with all of you.

Looking at Hilton's portfolio in the Maldives, apart from the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island which requires a scenic seaplane ride, the other three resorts are conveniently located close to the capital, Malé, and Velana International Airport (MLE).

Once you clear customs after your international flight, you can simply hop on a speedboat or luxury yacht (an exclusive perk for guests of the Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi) and arrive at your resort in no time. It’s incredibly convenient!

The Hilton Maldives Amingiri Resort is just about 19km straight-line distance from MLE. For weary travelers coming from afar, skipping the extra seaplane or domestic flight is a huge plus. Just board the designated speedboat, and you'll be checking in just 20 minutes later.

Looking at official maps and satellite images, you can see the Hilton Maldives Amingiri Resort sits just northwest of the airport. Resorts close to the airport often get mixed reviews—while the short transfer is fantastic, some guests worry about seeing commercial ships or seaplanes, which might slightly detract from that "isolated island paradise" vibe we all crave in the Maldives. But honestly, we don't think it'll be a dealbreaker! It really depends on the orientation of your overwater villa; you might not even be facing the airport or harbor. We'll have to wait until we experience it ourselves to give you the final verdict.

🔖 Speedboat Transfer Costs

Based on info from the resort's customer service, the shared round-trip speedboat transfer fees are:

  • Per Adult: US$300 + 23.2% tax & service charge
  • Per Child: US$150 + 23.2% tax & service charge (2-12 years old)
  • Children under 2 years old: Free

🏖️ The Scale of this Overwater Villa Resort?

According to the official fact sheet, the resort boasts an impressive array of facilities:

As you can see from the resort map, these facilities are spread out beautifully across the island. We're pretty sure that besides walking, there will be electric buggies to ferry guests around effortlessly.

Looking at the Google Maps satellite view, you can spot the beach villas dotted along the island's shores, with two expansive wings of overwater villas reaching out into the ocean. Compared to some other Maldivian resorts, the Hilton Maldives Amingiri Resort seems to have a slightly higher density of villas and a bit less lush vegetation at this stage.

Based on construction photos shared on Google Maps, we can deduce that most of the land reclamation took place between 2018 and 2019. From a tiny speck of sand to a fully developed beach landscape with sprawling villa wings, it's mind-blowing to see what modern engineering can do! It does bring up the ongoing challenge the Maldives faces: balancing the environmental impact of development with the economic benefits of tourism.

🏖️ Unveiling the Overwater and Beach Villas

What sets the Hilton Maldives Amingiri Resort apart from many others is that every single overwater and beach villa comes with its own private pool! That means every room you can book is essentially a luxurious "villa." Among Hilton's four properties here, the ones that match this standard are the Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi and the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island (which made a grand return in February 2022 after a multi-million dollar renovation, also equipping every room with a pool or jacuzzi). It's clear that these top-tier resorts are moving in this direction to stay competitive, making the choice much easier for us travelers who already suffer from decision paralysis!

Every luxury resort has its crown jewel, and here, it's The Amingiri Residence. Unfortunately, there aren't any renderings available yet, but the official description gives us a pretty good idea of its sheer opulence.

The Amingiri Residence is set on a stunningly landscaped private cove, offering sweeping views of the azure waters and majestic Maldivian sunrises. It's massive—roughly ten times the size of standard villas at 3,225 sq. m. / 34,713 sq. ft! This six-bedroom, two-villa estate features its own private gym, sauna and steam room, and a multimedia entertainment room. The outdoor space is equally lavish with a sprawling deck boasting a huge pool, dining area, sun loungers, and hammocks. And of course, it has its own private pier for direct boat and luxury yacht arrivals.

Accommodating up to 12 adults, it’s the ultimate luxurious haven for celebration trips, major family milestones, and once-in-a-lifetime events.
