Just one month after the Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay opened its doors in 2017, we happened to be there for our honeymoon. Staying in a brand-new resort with fairytale bungalows, soaking up Fiji's gloriously laid-back holiday vibes, and being welcomed by the most enthusiastic staff imaginable — it all added up to the most unforgettable honeymoon. And the Duplex Lagoon Front Bure at this Momi Bay Marriott? It held the undisputed top spot in our all-time favorite hotel rooms list for a very, very long time. (Info as of May 2017)

Ever since I became a wife — and somehow ended up accidentally marrying a hotel points obsessive — it feels like we go on a honeymoon every single year (honestly, it's like winning the lottery 😆 — ladies, I cannot recommend this strongly enough, start converting your partner to the points game now!). We've since visited Tahiti, Phú Quốc in Vietnam, Bali, and Dubai — no shortage of dream honeymoon destinations — but our actual honeymoon, the very first trip we took as newlyweds? That was Fiji, right in the heart of the South Pacific! 🌺

After surviving the sheer chaos of wedding planning — genuinely felt like we were running on fumes by the end — it suddenly made complete sense why island destinations are such beloved honeymoon spots! Beyond the breathtakingly romantic ocean views, Cherry's absolute top priority was being able to completely switch off and sleep in as late as she pleased. So we crossed every sightseeing-heavy destination off the list and happily settled on a beach island escape.

When it comes to island honeymoons, most people think of Tahiti or the Maldives alongside Fiji — but our reasoning for choosing Fiji was refreshingly simple 👉🏻 it was cheaper. (We were flying from Brisbane, Australia right after the wedding, so Fiji had by far the most affordable flights.) After the wedding, our brains were simply too fried to handle too many decisions 😆 — I just picked the destination, and left the hotel entirely up to Kevin. When we arrived at the Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay, we were completely and utterly blown away!

🌺 The Lobby

The arched wooden lobby is pure tropical resort energy. The soaring ceilings give the entire space a sense of understated luxury — no flashy décor needed. And if you peer over the railing at the far end of the lobby, you're rewarded with a stunning view of the resort's entire row of over-water bungalows stretching out before you. It's easily one of the most memorable hotel lobbies we've ever walked into!

And here it is — our room! 👉🏻 The Duplex Lagoon Front Bure, Larger Guest room, 1 King. I still don't quite know why, but that little round door never failed to make me think of the Shire from The Lord of the Rings 😆

The moment we stepped inside, it all clicked — those charming curved shapes on the exterior come from the beautifully unique arched ceiling within! It's genuinely unlike any room we'd seen before.

Since it was our honeymoon, the resort surprised us with a generous platter of tropical fruits, along with juices and sodas. In that tropical heat, it was honestly the most perfect welcome gift we could have asked for!

The bathroom design is wonderfully distinctive — a freestanding soaking tub takes centre stage in the middle of the room, with frosted glass doors on either side leading to the separate shower and toilet areas~

A large full-length mirror faces the freestanding tub, making the entire space feel wonderfully open and airy~

There's only one sink — but that means the countertop is absolutely enormous!

The vivid scarlet hibiscus 🌺 is one of Fiji's most iconic tropical flowers — both resorts we stayed at during our trip used hibiscus blooms as room decorations~

Even the bed had two 🌺 🌺 waiting for us!

The whole row of over-water bungalows reflected across the artificial lagoon is just stunning.

A view like this? You could stare at it all day and never once get tired of it!

Just a few steps down from our room and we were right on the beach~~

The beach was lined with 🌴 🌴 🌴

The beach was scattered with fallen 🌴 fruits — some of them were almost perfectly heart-shaped, which was honestly the cutest thing 💚 💚 💚

Inspired by those heart-shaped fruits — because when you're on your honeymoon, apparently everything in sight must be turned into a heart pose 😆

The lagoon-view bure earns major bonus points for its whimsical fairytale exterior. Open the floor-to-ceiling windows and you step straight onto the beach, while both the room inside and the private terrace offer gorgeous views of the resort's signature artificial lagoon and over-water bungalows. The design is beautifully consistent throughout — those soaring arched ceilings with wooden crossbeams create an atmosphere that feels genuinely calming from the moment you arrive. Every single staff member we encountered in Fiji greeted us with a beaming smile and bellowed a hearty "BULA" (the Fijian word for hello!) from across the resort grounds. Whether it's Fiji as a destination or the Momi Bay Marriott itself, for anyone dreaming of a relaxed, unhurried honeymoon — this place is absolutely, completely, without-a-doubt worth it~~!
